THE VALIDATION TRAP
Everyone wants to be liked.
There's nothing wrong with that.
The problem begins when being liked becomes more important than being yourself.
Many people spend making decisions based on reactions instead of values.
They post for likes.
Speak for applause.
Work for recognition.
Live for approval.
And without realizing, they hand over the control of their lives to other people.
WHY WE CRAVE VALIDATION:
Human beings are wired for belonging.
For most of history, acceptance by the group was essential for survival.
Being rejected could mean isolation.
Danger.
Even death.
That instinct still exists today.
We naturally care about what others think.
The problem is that modern life gives us endless opportunities to seek approval.
Every like.
Every comment.
Every View.
Every reaction.
Becomes a small form of validation.
And over time, it can become addictive.
THE HIDDEN COST:
The desire of approval often looks harmless.
But it comes with a price.
You stop saying what you really think.
You avoid taking risks.
You hesitate before making decisions.
You become afraid of criticism.
You begin editing your personality to fit other people's expectations.
Little by little, you lose authenticity.
Not because someone forced you to.
Because you were trying to keep everyone happy.
THE IMPOSSIBLE GOAL:
The truth is simple.
No matter what you do, someone will disagree.
Someone will judge.
Someone Will misunderstand you.
Someone won't like you.
Trying to please everyone is an impossible assignment.
The more people you try to satisfy, the further you move away from yourself.
A BETTER QUESTION:
Instead of asking:
"WHAT PEOPLE WILL THINK?"
Ask:
"WHAT DO I THINK?"
"WHAT MATTERS TO ME?"
"WHAT KIND OF PERSON DO I WANT TO BECOME?"
Those questions lead somewhere useful.
Because your life is not a group project.
You are the one who has to live with your own decisions.
A LESSON FROM THE COURAGE TO BE DISLIKED:
In The Courage To Be Disliked, authors Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga present a powerful idea:
Other people's opinions belongs to them.
Your responsibility is to make your choices honestly and accept the consequences.
Not to earn approval from everyone around you.
The Moment you understand this life becomes beautiful and lighter.
You stop chasing permission.
And start taking ownership.
THE EDGE:
The Moment you stop needing permission from everyone else,
YOU START BECOMING YOURSELF
