THE IDENTITY TRAP
Why the story you tell yourself quietly shapes the life you live.
Everyone has a story about themselves.
"I'm not confident"
"I'm not disciplined"
"I'm just unlucky"
"I'm not good enough"
There is nothing wrong with having a story.
The problem begins when that story becomes your identity.
Without realising it,
You stop seeing who you could become.
And start living as the person you've convinced yourself you already are.
WHY WE HOLD ONTO LABELS:
Labels feel familiar.
They explain our past.
They protect us from uncertainty.
They give us a reason to stay where we are.
Over time, we stop questioning them.
We confuse our habits with our identity.
And what began as a temporary struggle becomes a permanent belief.
THE HIDDEN COST:
The identity you believe shapes the actions you take.
If you believe you are not disciplined, you stop trying to be.
If you believe you're not confident,
You avoid situations that could build confidence.
Every decision quietly reinforces the story you already tell yourself.
Not because it's true.
Because you believe it is.
THE TRUTH:
Identity isn't fixed.
It's built through repeated actions.
You don't become someone by saying it.
You become someone by acting like them consistently.
Every small choice is a vote for the person you're becoming.
A SIMPLE SHIFT:
Instead of saying:
"I'M NOT DISCIPLINED"
Say,
"I'M LEARNING DISCIPLINE"
Instead of saying:
"I'M NOT CONFIDENT"
Say,
"I'M BECOMING MORE CONFIDENT"
The language you use shapes the identity you build.
A BETTER QUESTION:
Instead or asking:
"WHO AM I?"
Ask:
"WHO AM I BECOMING?"
"WHAT IDENTITY DO MY DAILY ACTIONS SUPPORT?"
"WHAT WOULD MY FUTURE SELF DO TODAY?"
Those questions shift your focus from labels to growth.
Because identity is created through action.
THE EDGE:
Your future isn't created by your intentions.
It's created by your identity.
Your actions change your habits.
Your habits shape your identity.
And your identity shapes your life.
